Dave Lopez for Mayor of Modesto?
March 23, 2015
Dave Lopez from District 3 has announced he is running for Mayor Marsh's seat of Mayor of Modesto.
When Mayor Marsh stated at his first state of the address speech he intended to annex Salida, Katherine Borges was not happy, as a matter of fact it came as a shock to her, she couldn't believe what Mayor Marsh just said. That day will forever be ingrained in our community. Katherine Borges attended her first Salida MAC meeting where she was the only Salida resident that had attended that day, but things were about to change. Katherine then started standing up at the Modesto City Council meetings and gathered several people to go with her that were against annexation. The Salida MAC meetings grew to historic numbers and still two years later the meetings are still going strong.
During the annexation attempt, Dave Lopez made it clear that Salida should be annexed. Dave even voted to include Salida. When Salidans made it clear they did not want to be annexed, Mayor Marsh and the council decided to land grab Wood Colony. Dave Lopez was invited one of his constituents home and while he was there, he received a phone call, excused himself from the conversation and the resident heard Dave making deals on the phone with a developer on land in the Wood Colony area. The resident was outraged that Dave would conduct business inside their home while they had invited him there to stress how important Wood Colony meant to them and their family for they were from Wood Colony. The resident took that as a sign of disrespect.
Salidacanews met up with Dave Lopez at a town hall meeting in Woodland area, Dave informed us that Salida residents needs to do what they can or what they feel is important to them. He would not commit to making a stand with or against Salida. But when the city council voted in January of 2014, Dave Lopez voted against Salida.
Dave did vote to save Wood Colony from annexation but most of the Wood Colony residents and Salida residents felt he changed his vote to try and save his political career. Shortly after he made an announcement he was running for Dick Monteith Stanislaus County Supervisor seat. Dick Montieth won with 59% of the vote.
Dave Lopez has now announced he is running for Mayor of Modesto. The impact that this could make on Salida is yet to be determined, but based on past history it doesn't bode well.
Denny Jackman former Modesto City Counil member, Jake Wenger Wood Colony Farmer and Hydrologist Vance Kennedy did write a urban limits and it will be on the ballot this election, they were able to collect enough signatures for the ballot measure. It is for the preservation of some of our very own prime farmland in Stanislaus County. West of Highway 99 and North of Kiernan Ave. This will prevent Modesto from land grabbing some of the best farmland in AMERICA and destroying it by placing warehouses in place where some of the best crops are grown in California. Modesto residents will be the only ones that can vote on this. Salida and Wood Colony residents will not be able to vote for it is a Modesto city issue. We have met many people that believe in our independence we just hope it shows at the polls during this next election on the ballot measure.

Hughson Mayor Beekman speaks out
April 15, 2015
Hughson Mayor Matt Beekman is on the LAFCO board (Local Agency Formation Commission)
Six mayors in Stanislaus County did not like it that Matt Beekman voted in favor of the amendment in-lieu fees for the current agriculture mitigation policy. The low flat rate fees that developers pay have not increased in over a decade. The six city mayors were so upset that they have started the process to have Matt Beekman removed from LAFCO so they could force a second vote.
This will affect the Wood Colony area and all of Stanislaus County if the six mayor succeed in having him removed from LAFCO and they end up having him replaced with someone else that is developer friendly. Time to call in the troops and inform the six mayors that "We The People" do NOT agree with their tactics of bullying. We declare a NO BULLY ZONE
Attend the meeting on May 13th in Turlock at the Turlock City Chambers located 156 South Broadway, Turlock Ca. Watch the 3 minute video of Matt Beekman speaking out.
