Salida Old Fashioned Country Festival
September 16, 2017
This year was the first annual Salida Old Fashioned Country Festival, It was a great success. The last Festival was in 2015 by the Salida Civic Association. The organization had disbanded and along with the Civic Association there was no longer a Festival. Nanette Spyksma a Board member of the Salida Chamber of Commerce, had participated in the Festival since the 2nd year of it's existence. Nanette hated to see it end and had suggested to the Salida Chamber of Commerce to keep the Festival alive. The Board agreed but put Nanette Spyksma in charge of the event. Nanette started up a committee and recruited people that would be as dedicated in this event and the committee was very successful. The Committee gathered several raffle prizes, had a parade, a petting zoo and sixty vendors. Nanette Spyksma stated that there is no way this would have come together without the help and dedication of the committee. The Sheriff's Department even stepped up and helped out with the event, volunteering their explorers, putting on their K-9 demonstration and bringing in the Bomb Squad.
The committee is already working on next years Festivial which is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2018 next year. Next year is going to be bigger and better, there will be entertainment with children's next year. The committee is looking forward to next year, said Nanette.

FIRE FESTIVITIES
January 31, 2015
Salida firefighters received a warm welcome from the community, the event took place at Station one from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Boy Scouts Pack 48 made their appearance all dressed in their uniforms enjoying the engines. Girl Scout Troop 711 was there to serve food to all those that chose to enjoy a BBQ'd hotdog, chips, cookie and water was supplied. The children really did enjoy climbing up in the engines and dressing up in the gear. The smiles on their faces says it all. Dale Skiles the fire Chief was there to interact with everyone. Salida fire consists of three stations, Station one is located on Salida Blvd and Broadway Ave. Station two is located on Ladd and Tully and Station three is located on Ciccarelli and Toomes.
An emergency call went out during the event for a multi vehicle accident on SR99 at Hammett rd. The children at the time were able to see the lights and hear the sirens as the engines left for the accident scene. Injuries were minor.
